Lake Teganuma, the closest natural lake to central Tokyo, spans Abiko City, Kashiwa City, Inzai City, and Shiroi City in Chiba Prefecture. A large-scale fireworks festival is held every August, and a marathon is held in October. On the lakeside, the former villas of novelist Naoya Shiga and ancient Western historian Kengo Murakawa still stand. From the Edo period to the early Showa period, Lake Teganuma was known as a production area for eels, and while eel fishing is no longer carried out as of 2025, there are still many eel restaurants. ■Difficult Jigsaw
