In the late 1970s, known as the third kaiju boom, Popy's "Greataurus Series" and "Kingzaurus Series" (sold from 1978-1981) were released. These were collectible toys from Popy, a group company of Bandai.
The most distinctive feature of the series was the foot-shaped mold on both feet of every character. For this reason, the series was sometimes called the "Foot Mold Series."
It was developed as both the Ultraman Kaiju Series and the Toho Kaiju Series.
At the time, only a select few characters from the Kingzaurus Series were released in giant sizes under the Greataurus name. The Greataurus Godzilla was later modified into lamps, telephone stands, and other items, and sold in novelty shops.
As part of the Godzilla 70th Anniversary project in 2024, the historic "Greataurus Godzilla" sofubi was faithfully reproduced and re-released with new molds.
As part of the same series, this time, King Ghidorah, with its three heads, three necks, two long tails, golden scales covering its entire body, two thick legs, and a pair of massive wings for flight, has been newly sculpted in the retro, rounded form of the Kingzaurus Series. It is now立体化 (three-dimensionalized) in the Greataurus Series size!
Try displaying it alongside the separately sold Greataurus Godzillas!
*Movable parts: Neck, head, waist, legs, wings (circular movement)
The soles of the feet have the Greataurus foot mold from that era.
Wings rotate circularly! !
The three necks and heads are individually poseable! !
Waist and leg articulation allow for even more expressive posing! !
Foot molds are also reproduced! !
