Illustrations: Toni Llobet, Judit PiellaThe local forest is teeming with life. Animals scurry through clearings searching for grass and insects to eat. Some prefer to live in trees, others in dense undergrowth, and still others only find peace in the shade of trees.
Forest Shuffle is a card game where you create an ecologically balanced habitat for animals and plants before three winter cards appear during the game and the game ends. As players plant trees in their "forest" during the game, it becomes a forest where various animals, plants, and fungi thrive.
On your turn, a player either "draws two cards from the top of the deck or from the open card discard pile (the clearing)" or "plays one card and places a number of cards equal to its cost face up in the clearing."
Cards include "trees," which are the foundation of the forest, and cards depicting separate creatures ("animals," "birds," "insects," "grass," "fungi," etc.) that inhabit (are stacked on) the spaces above, below, left, and right of the trees, and are divided into upper/lower or left/right sections.
Each forest creature has conditions, such as required vegetation and location, creatures needed as food, or being part of a flock. By considering these conditions and placing them in the forest, you can create an ecologically rich forest. However, since the cards are divided, if you place one side, you must abandon the other, so you need to play thoughtfully. Also, if there are 10 or more cards in the clearing after playing a card, all of them are discarded, but if cards remain, other players can draw them, so you need to be careful about the cards you place in the clearing.
