"Xiang Yu and Liu Bang: The Chu-Han Contention" is set against the backdrop of dynastic intrigue in ancient China from 206-202 BC, leading up to and during the Chu-Han Contention. Two factions, Han and Chu, vie for supremacy to overthrow the weakened Qin rulers and establish the first true dynasty in China. Historically, Chu was initially stronger, but Han ultimately triumphed. Can you outwit your rival and lead the way to a new dynasty?
In "Xiang Yu and Liu Bang: The Chu-Han Contention," players are divided into "Chu" and "Han" factions. One game consists of 4 to 7 "contentions," where players aim to "complete" their hand first by playing all their cards. A contention consists of a series of exchanges. The starting player plays one or more cards as a "set." The set must consist of cards of the same rank (number). The opponent then plays a set of the same number of cards of a higher rank, or passes. The player who does not pass wins the exchange and gets the next starting turn. Most victory
points are earned by completing a contention. The first player to reach 31 or more points wins. The cards feature various characters from the Chu-Han factions, many of whom have unique abilities that can earn victory points or change how cards are played.
This is a two-player card game set in the battles of ancient China, known by the idiom "besieged on all sides," featuring fascinating characters like Han Xin and Zhang Liang. It offers intense strategic gameplay with simple rules. It also includes a campaign mode, allowing players to recreate historical events.
