In "e-Mission," each player takes on the role of either Europe, the USA, China, or the Third World, cooperating to develop the amazing technologies needed for a warming Earth and aiming to build a resilient society.
Since "e-Mission" is a fully cooperative game, players either win or lose together!
The game is played over a maximum of 6 rounds, with each round consisting of 5 stages.
During each round, players play cards like "Long-Range Power Transmission" and "Tree Farms" from their hand to cards like "Clean Power Plants" and "Recovery Volunteers" in their play area.
Playing a card in front of an existing card replaces its ability, while playing it behind strengthens the existing card.
Each card has various tags such as "Energy" and "Ecosystem," and as these accumulate, they become a mountain that creates powerful combos.
In the fifth stage, the "International Stage," players hold conferences to consider various crises such as anticipated "Storms" and "Global Financial Crises," and choose international project cards such as "Large-Scale Wind Power Technology" and "Loss and Damage Fund."
In the "Regional Stage," players play regional project cards like "Social Movements" and "Reforestation" on their board to remove exhaust tokens and polluting energy.
In the "Emission Stage," players recover as many carbon tokens emitted in that round as possible.
In the "Crisis Stage," crisis cards that appeared in the International Stage are resolved, and their impact on the Earth is assessed.
If crises cannot be resolved, "desertification" or "ocean acidification" may occur, leading to a reduction in player resources and hand size.
In the "Growth Round," it is checked whether the game has been won based on the progress of previous rounds.
If the victory conditions are not met, the energy demand of each faction increases, and the game proceeds to the next round.
To win, all players collectively must reach a state of "drawdown," where more carbon can be removed from the atmosphere than is generated.
This is achieved by adding clean energy tokens to continue meeting the energy demand of one's own faction, while also playing cards that remove polluting energy and exhaust tokens from the player board.
If Round 6 ends without reaching drawdown, or if the temperature rises by 2℃, or if 12 social crisis tokens accumulate, the Earth's environment becomes irreversible, and the players lose the game.
This is a cooperative board game about climate change adaptation by Matt Leacock of "Pandemic," themed around various environmental issues currently facing the Earth and how to solve them.
